Up for sale, a 1990 Fender Stratocaster '72 vintage reissue model in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A very rare left-handed variant, this Strat (officially model ST72-65) was produced very early in the original "Made in Japan"  Fujigen factory production run, with both the exceptional feel and tone for which Fender Japan is known.

There's plenty to love about this guitar, and each position on the five-way pickup selector switch is distinct, with the original trio of PU-3 Japanese single coils. From throaty, rich lead tones in the neck position, thinned out squawk in positions 2 and 4, and a bell-like, shimmery bridge pickup, this Strat covers all the classic tonal bases. Weighing 8lbs 4oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Strat with low action, accurate intonation, and 10-46 strings.

The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with modest shoulder and just a hair more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. The original slender frets are intact on the dark rosewood fretboard with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the large headstock has the era-correct block logo, with a set of original Gotoh tuning machines. The guitar retains its early "Made in Japan" text and J-prefix serial number on the neck heel just north of the three-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as they should, with the trio of alnico magnet single coils wired to the stock Japanese harness with pots that date to September of 1990. The guitar has a full-size tremolo block for optimal sustain and clarity, and the vibrato responds effortlessly for deep dives and expressive warbles, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. The chrome hardware is clean and bright with just a hint of surface patina, and all of the original black plastic parts are intact. The gloss Black finish exhibits one large finish chip on the lower bout body edge, and beyond that there are just a few very faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and unambered.

A gigbag is included.
