Up for sale, a 1990 Fender Precision Bass ‘70 vintage reissue model PB70-700, 100% original and in perfect working order. This uncommon and early “Made in Japan” bass was produced at the Fujigen factory, rarely seen outside its country of origin.Tonally, this bass delivers the goods, and acoustically the ash body is quite resonant, with prominent grain and plenty of midrange punch. There's a strong fundamental thump to the tone, and the roundwound strings provide plenty of top end articulation. This bass weighs 9lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and retains the stock slender fretwire which has plenty of meat, showing moderate wear on frets 1-7. Additionally, there is also wear through the fretboard gloss beneath the E string from frets 2-5. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock nut measures 1 9/16” in width. The headstock sports an era-accurate block logo, and the tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with full-size baseplates and clover buttons that exhibit light surface patina. The “Made in Japan” text and K-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate, and matching model stamps are present on the neck pocket and in the heel. All of the electronics work as intended, with the split-coil pickup wired to the stock harness and governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. The solder joints are untouched, and the original full-size Japanese pots date to December, 1990. The chrome-plated hardware is bright and clean including the flat-top knurled knobs and bridge with steel barrel saddles. Plastics include the three-ply black pickguard which displays some light scuffing along the pick path. The gloss Natural finish highlights the broad, dynamic grain in the ash body, exhibiting a sizeable finish chip on the bass-side lower bout body edge, a cluster of pinhead-sized dings on the lower bout on the back, and a handful of minor marks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. There is also a cleanly doweled extra thumb rest mounting hole just beyond the bass-side pickguard edge. The neck profile retains its lightly ambered gloss with some minor marks on the profile length that have no impact on playability or comfort. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
