Up for sale, a 1990 Fender Medium Scale Stratocaster model STM-550G in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Part of Fender Japan's Pro Feel series crafted at the famed Fujigen factory, this guitar was marketed exclusively to the Japanese domestic market and rarely seen outside its country of origin. This rare Strat model has the attention to detail and premium fit and finish work consistent with the “Made in Japan” era.Featuring a scaled down poplar body, maple neck, and 22 fret maple fingerboard, the acoustic response of this Strat is balanced and chiming. The stock Hotrod-5S pickups are wired to a five-way switch offering plenty of twang and bite at the bridge and a warmer, bell-like quality at the neck, while positions 2 and 4 have a nice squawk and cut. The guitar weighs 7lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The one-piece neck has a very slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .735” deep at the 1st fret and .810” at the 12th. The fast neck shape works in tandem with the shorter 24 3/4” scale length and 40mm (1 9/16") nut to ensure that this STM-550G has an effortless, fast feel. The 22 fret maple fretboard has pristine original medium jumbo fretwire, and the guitar plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. On the headstock, the Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The neck heel has the proper factory stamps, and the “Made in Japan” text and K-prefix serial number are present above the contoured four-bolt neck plate. All the electronics work as intended, with the pickups wired to five-way selector switch and standard Volume/Tone/Tone controls with full-size Japanese pots. The Endrox G1 two-point pivot tremolo displays some patina across the chrome plating, particularly on the saddles. Plastics include the three-ply white pickguard and uniformly yellowed pickup covers and knobs. Cosmetic wear includes a number of small dings and a singular finish chip along the lower bout, and light buckle rash on the back at the waist. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth. The tremolo cavity cover has been removed, but is present in the gigbag alongside with the mounting screws.A black gigbag is included, as is the original warranty card.
