Up for sale, a 1990 Fender Jazzmaster ‘62 vintage reissue model JM66-65 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A clean and very early example from the golden age of Fender Japan production, this "Made in Japan" Jazzmaster is particularly rare, crafted at the famed Fujigen factory.

At 8lbs 5oz, the guitar has an authoritative, clear sound when strummed acoustically, qualities that are translated faithfully through the original single coil pair. The instrument has plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of defined and powerful tones from the two alnico magnet pickups. Warmer, wooly sounds can be accessed via the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster features fresh 11-49 strings, dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .895” at the 12th. The dark rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius with dot inlay and slender fretwire that's in great shape, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42mm (1.650”) in width. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The “Made in Japan” text and I-prefix serial are present above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate, and the factory JM66-65 model stamps are present in the neck pocket and on the heel.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the harness is stock with untouched solder joints. The chrome-plated hardware is notably clean, including the original vibrato unit and bridge with spiral saddles. Plastics comprise a red tortoise pickguard and the original pair of knobs and pickup covers, the latter of which show uniform yellowing.

The gloss Sunburst finish is vibrant and saturated, highlighting the grain of the body wood. Cosmetic wear is limited to a scant few minor marks along the treble-side lower bout body edge, and a handful of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a few microscopic shallow dings on the bass-side shoulder at fret 10 that have no impact on playability.

A vintage form-fit Japanese faux leather gigbag is included.

***We are dealers for the M2 Mastery bridge, OMV-P Offset Vibrato, and Lollar Jazzmaster pickups, any or all of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
