Up for sale, a 1990 Fender Jazz Bass ‘62 vintage reissue model JB62-950 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Produced at the venerable Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, this “Made in Japan” Jazz Bass was a top-tier model, faithful to vintage spec, featuring a nitro lacquer finish with USA-made single coil pickups and electronics.

Tonewoods include an alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard, delivering a resonant, lively and round acoustic quality that translates well through the original Fender USA single coil pickups. There's plenty of midrange growl and burp on tap, with great top end detail and fundamental punch. Rolling back the Tone knob yields a pillowy, thick thump that retains definition. This Jazz Bass weighs 9lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve at the nut, with good shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .985” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire is practically perfect. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. The headstock sports the correct ‘62-style Fender Jazz Bass decal, and the back of the headstock has a third strap button, keeping things period correct down to the smallest details. The original long stem clover-button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with full-size baseplates, and the small blue “95” sticker is present on the back of the headstock, denoting the original model tier and price of this bass when new (¥95,000). The “Made in Japan” text and J-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck is pencil dated 10-19-90.

All of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and USA-made CTS 250K pots that date to ‘89. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, including the control plate and bridge base with spiral (threaded) saddles. Plastics comprise the trio of knobs and the four-ply red tortoise pickguard.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss three-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer finish includes areas of finish loss along the belly contour and lower bout body edge, buffed smooth with the surrounding finish. Further wear is limited to a handful of minor nicks on the back and some light texturing in the finish along the treble-side lower bout edge. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original Fender-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
