Up for sale, a 1990 Burny REX-80 ‘76-style Explorer in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, produced in Japan by Fernandes. Tonewoods include the mahogany body and mahogany neck capped by a rosewood fretboard, yielding a rich, resonant natural acoustic tone that's translated faithfully by the stock VH-3 alnico magnet humbuckers.

These VH-3s are bright and bold, with plenty of power on tap, both metering just shy of 7.8k ohms. The neck pickup is full and round-sounding, while the bridge has a white-hot bite and pristine clarity perfect for authoritative cleans and creamy, vintage-style breakup. Featherweight at just 6lbs 14oz, this Burny has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has a modestly chunky C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features flawless stock medium jumbo fretwire, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports an inlaid gold Burny logo, and the gold Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

All of the electronics work as intended, with the pickups wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints, governed by a three-way selector switch and Volume/Volume/Tone controls. All-gold hardware includes the ABR-1-style bridge and corresponding stoptail, all displaying an even dusting of gold patina. Plastics comprise the original trio of gold speed knobs and the one-ply white pickguard, which displays some light scuffing along the pick path. This is a notably well-kept example, with cosmetic wear on the gloss White finish limited to a small cluster of dings on the bass-side lower bout body point and a handful of faint finish scratches and pinhead-sized dings on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original form-fit faux leather gigbag is included.
