Up for sale, a 1989 Paul Reed Smith Custom in collector-grade, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, catalog, and all factory paperwork (including the unused warranty card). A very early and incredibly well-kept PRS, this model was simply dubbed the "PRS Custom" in the 1989 catalog, as the Custom 24 model name had yet to be minted.

Featuring a Vintage Yellow gloss finish over a highly figured, bookmatched carved flame maple top paired with a one-piece mahogany body and neck finished in Cherry, this PRS boasts all the hallmarks of their flagship model's early design including a slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard complete with Birds in Flight abalone inlay. A tremolo-equipped model with Standard Treble and Standard Bass humbuckers, this Custom delivers articulate, singing tones with a very versatile five-way rotary pickup selector switch. At 8lbs 7oz, this PRS offers great natural sustain that translates exceptionally well through the pickups. This PRS Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The mahogany neck has PRS' Regular profile, a medium depth carve with full shoulders in every register, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .920” at the 12th. The slab genuine Brazilian rosewood fretboard has a 10" radius, featuring Birds In Flight abalone inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire that shows virtually no wear. There are some light scratches on the rosewood on the treble side of the board, presumably from fingernails, as the frets themselves are flawless. The guitar plays well in all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted single action truss rod. The scale length is 25”, and the nut measures 1 11/16“ in width. On the back of the headstock, the inked serial number is present, along with chrome Schaller-made and PRS-branded self-locking tuning machines that turn smoothly.

All of the electronics are stock and untouched, and the five-way rotary pickup selector switch works as follows:

Position One: Bridge humbucker
Position Two: Bridge humbucker with neck single coil, in parallel
Position Three: Bridge and neck humbuckers
Position Four: Neck single coil with bridge single coil, in parallel
Position Five: Neck humbucker

Additional controls include the Master Volume knob and two-way "Sweet" mini toggle. The vibrato has a very smooth, elegant response, complete with its original pop-in arm. The carved, bookmatched maple cap features deep and dimensional flame figuring that extends liberally across every inch of the top with no bald spots. Cosmetic wear is limited to some faint finish scratches and swirling on the back, and similarly restrained wear on top with a few light finish scratches and a small area of concentrated pick wear on the treble side of the strum path. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless

The original hardshell case is included, along with the unused warranty card, original catalog and every piece of factory paperwork.
