1989 Greco EG59-60 Mint Collection Vintage Guitar Sunburst w/ Screamin PAFs, Japan Fujigen

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1989 Greco Mint Collection model EG59-60 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan’s famed Fujigen factory and faithful to vintage Gibson spec, this LP boasts premium fit and finish work, with PAF-style humbuckers and traditional tonewoods.

This Greco boasts a carved maple top with a bookmatched two-piece flame maple veneer, solid mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck with long tenon joint and a bound rosewood fingerboard. At 9lbs 14oz, this LP dishes out plenty of sustain and sonic authority, faithfully captured by the stock “Screamin” PAF-style humbuckers. When plugged in, the tone is detailed and rich with plenty of treble cut and smooth growl from the bridge pickup, and more warmth and fullness in the neck position. This guitar has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings and dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with nicely rounded shoulders in every register and notably heft and chunk further up the fretboard, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and 1.060” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay and stock medium fretwire which has good meat, showing  moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-12. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The original bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports the iconic “open book” shape, and the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with aged keystone buttons.

The headstock does exhibit a cleanly repaired V-shaped split on the bass side. The repair is smooth to the touch, perfectly stable at full tension, and nearly invisible to the naked eye.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a three-way pickup selector and individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. The harness includes the original full-size Japanese pots that date to 1989, with premium tone caps and Gibson-style braided leads. The nickel hardware is notably clean, with just a faint dusting of patina on the ABR-1-style bridge and stopbar. Plastics include the original quartet of amber bonnet knobs and the one-ply cream pickguard, which displays some requisite scuffing along the pick path.

The gloss Cherry Sunburst finish highlights the tight tiger flame figuring on the bookmatched maple veneer, framed by cream binding. There are a few tiny finish chips along the lower bout edge on top, and some additional minor dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is clean with the exception of a few shallow marks behind frets 3-6 that have no impact on playability.
