Up for sale a 1989 Gibson SG ‘90 Double in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Among the more unique and radical SG redesigns Gibson ever released, the SG ‘90 was a forward-thinking model only produced from ‘88-’90, featuring an SH pickup complement with coil splittable bridge humbucker, longer 25 1/2“ scale length, 24-fret ebony fingerboard, and pearloid pickguard. This particular SG ‘90 Double was ordered by Gibson’s Japanese distributor Yamano; Gibson’s USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered to be among their absolute best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson’s discerning Japanese audience.
Tonewoods include a select mahogany body, mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard, and this SG ‘90 Double is featherweight at 6lbs 9oz. The bridge pickup is a Bill Lawrence-designed L-8 Super Humbucker, known colloquially as Gibson's "circuit board" pickup. This short-lived medium output humbucker handles gain extremely well, delivering a detailed array of tones with a palette broadened via the push/push coil split at the Volume knob. The neck position single coil has been replaced, delivering Strat-style smooth, airy neck position tones, pairing well with the humbucker for a “best of both worlds” sound. This SG ‘90 Double has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
