Up for sale, a 1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, sporting a rich Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer finish and complete with the original hardshell case. This Les Paul has traditional tonewood ingredients including a carved two-piece maple cap and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body paired with a one-piece mahogany neck and bound rosewood fretboard. Weighing 10lbs, the instrument has plenty of natural sustain, sonic authority and articulation. At the heart of this Les Paul are a pair of Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbuckers, known colloquially as Gibson's "circuit board" pickups. These short-lived medium output pickups handle gain extremely well, delivering an articulate array of tones that can be bright and growly or thick and punchy with the flip of a switch. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action, and solid intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut with nicely rounded shoulders in every register and more perceivable overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the original frets have good meat and crown, shy of medium jumbo in size and showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-6. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with lightly greened tulip buttons. All of the electronics work as they should with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 21st week of '89. The chrome-plated Nashville Tune-o-Matic bridge and stopbar are bright and clean, with just a touch of patina on the pickup covers. All of the original plastic is present including the quartet of gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, pickguard, and switch surround. The original nitro lacquer Tobacco Sunburst finish is bold and saturated on the top, framed by lightly ambered binding. The top presents extremely well, with only a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat, and cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to a tiny bit of buckle worming at the bass-side waist, a few additional faint finish scratches on the back, and a few minor marks along the back lower bout body edge. The gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh flawless. The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included, with pink plush interior and the thicker "blanket" seen on the earliest examples of this case style. The original functional latches are intact, as is the leather handle.
