Up for sale, a 1989 Gibson Les Paul Custom in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. With a dark Tobacco Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish, this Les Paul Custom comes from an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production, making the most of the classic combination of a solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body, carved two-piece maple top, one-piece mahogany neck and genuine ebony fretboard. Weighing 10lbs 1oz, the guitar delivers a bold, muscly acoustic voice with great warmth and treble articulation.

At the heart of this Les Paul Custom are a pair of Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbuckers, known colloquially as Gibson's "circuit board" pickups. These short-lived medium output pickups handle gain extremely well, delivering a detailed array of tones that can be bright and growly or thick and punchy with the flip of a switch. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Custom is dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action and solid intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with generous shoulder in every register and more heft further up the fretboard, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard sports pearl block inlay and original frets that retain their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the guitar plays easily in every register up the 24 3/4" scale. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock has all the classic appointments of a Les Paul Custom, with multi-ply binding, split diamond pearl inlay, and "Custom" truss rod cover. The original Gibson-branded tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well with light patina on the metal tulip buttons.

All of the electronics work as they should with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 41st week of '89. The hardware includes the Nashville bridge and stopbar, and the gold plating is bright and clean with just a speckling of surface patina. Plastics include a quartet of particularly minty black speed knobs, the multi-ply pickguard, and switch surround and tip.

The gloss Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is very well-kept, with a couple small nicks on the lower bout on top and on the multi-ply binding, with light pick scuffing across the strum path. There is very light buckle rash at the edge of the bass-side waist, and a few additional faint finish scratches across the back. The gloss on the neck profile is extremely clean and smooth with only a couple extremely small, shallow marks on the profile length.

The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included. The case is equally as nice as the guitar, retaining the original leather handle and all functional latches.
