Up for sale, a 1989 Fender Telecaster ‘67 vintage reissue “Sonny” model TL67-70SPL in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The only iteration ever offered by Fender of Keith Richard’s #2 Tele “Sonny,” this rare and long ago discontinued “Made in Japan” Telecaster was produced in particularly small numbers exclusively for the Japanese domestic market as part of the Limited Edition Collector’s Series at the Fujigen factory. While Keef’s “Micawber” Telecaster often gets the majority of the limelight, his “Sonny” Tele is an equally vital part of the Stones’ sound. This particular TL67-70SPL has been augmented with a Seymour Duncan Antiquity PAF humbucker at the neck and a Fender American Standard single coil at the bridge.

Just like Richard’s own Tele, this TL67-70SPL features a maple neck with maple cap fretboard, paired with a white ash body. The upgraded Seymour Duncan Antiquity PAF humbucker at the neck was designed to be an exceedingly faithful replica of Seth Lover’s original PAFs, with Duncan going so far winding the pickups on Seymour’s original Leesona winding machine from the early Gibson factory in Kalamazoo. This humbucker is warm and articulate, highly responsive and balanced with a slightly scooped midrange to ensure optimal clarity. The Fender USA-made American Standard single coil in the bridge position yields quintessential Tele twang and snap, pairing well with the humbucker in the middle position for a full-yet-punchy “best of both worlds” sound. This TL67-70SPL has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
