Up for sale, a 1989 Fender Stratocaster model ST-700SPL in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This unique “Made in Japan” Strat is a rare combination of East and West, featuring a body and neck crafted at the venerable Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, patterned after the American Standard model. Hardware includes the same Schaller-made two-point vibrato and Fender-embossed tuning machines seen on the American Standard model, and additional features of note include micro-tilt adjustment at the neck heel, a 22-fret fingerboard with a modern 9 1/2" radius and medium jumbo fretwire, and a “swimming pool” pickup route. The basswood body ensures a neutral, clear natural acoustic profile faithfully captured by the stock trio of ST-Current single coil pickups. These ceramic magnet pickups have more punch and power than the typical Alnico design, sounding distinct and clear in all positions on the five-way switch, and delivering quintessential Strat quack at the in-between settings. The neck pickup is throaty and full, and the bridge has a sparkling cut. Weighing 8lbs 6oz, this Strat has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .880” at the 12th. The thick slab 22-fret rosewood fretboard has a modern 9 1/2“ radius, and the medium jumbo frets are in great shape, with plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, only exhibiting light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-7. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width, carved from bone for optimal clarity and sustain. On the headstock, the Fender-embossed Schaller-made tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and G-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate with micro-tilt adjustment, and the neck heel retains its factory model stamp. All of the electronics function as intended, with the ceramic pickups wired to the stock harness. The pickup route is an American Standard-style “swimming pool” route, and the full-size Japanese pots date to January, 1989 with untouched solder joints. The hardware is all notably clean, including the jack cup, bridge base, and steel block saddles. The two-point Schaller-made vibrato actuates easily and bounces quickly back to pitch from surfy warble and deeper dives, with a full-sized steel block. Plastics comprise the lightly aged trio of knobs and the clean three-ply white guard. The custom color Rebel Yellow finish exhibits some darkening of the gloss on the body as a whole, with cosmetic wear limited to some finish chipping on the bass side edge of the neck joint, a handful of dings along the lower bout perimeter, and just a few additional minor marks and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.A padded gigbag is included.
