Up for sale, a 1989 Fender Stratocaster '62 vintage reissue model in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An early vintage reissue example made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this "Made in Japan" Strat was crafted at the Fujigen factory and boasts a three-tone Sunburst gloss finish. The trio of original staggered alnico magnet single coils deliver a sound that is biting and clear, with ample sparkle and bridge position snap. The five-way pickup selector switch allows for easy access to the signature Strat "quack" in the in-between positions on the switch, and the neck pickup has a very round, yet crisp sound. The guitar weighs 8lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with a surprising amount of roundness and chunk. The shoulders are very substantial in the higher registers, and the fretboard edges are rolled for added comfort. The profile measures .845" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is extremely dark and tight-grained with a 7 1/4" radius, sporting the original vintage-spec fretwire. The frets retain their full factory height, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, with wear growing lighter and extending to the octave. The scale length measures 25 1/2”, and the nut measures 1.675" in width, just shy of 1 11/16". The headstock features the original Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" text and E-prefix serial are present just above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, and the trio of alnico single coil pickups are wired to the original full-size pots which date to '89. The pickups measure in the mid-5k ohm range, ideal for vintage-flavored Strat tonalities. The tremolo has a full-size block for ideal sustain, actuating easily with a smooth response. The chrome plating on the hardware is very clean, showing just a touch of patina on the saddles, and original plastics include a white three-ply pickguard and uniformly aged pickup covers and knobs.
The gloss three-tone Sunburst finish is 100% original, with one finish chip and a couple additional dings on the back lower bout body edge. There are a few minor marks on the body parameter, and a small spot of faint buckle rash, mostly on the plastic trem cavity cover. The neck profile gloss is lightly ambered and extremely clean and smooth.
A gigbag is included.
