Up for sale, a 1989 Fender Jazzmaster '62 vintage reissue electric guitar model JM66-70, thoroughly upgraded and complete with a vintage hardshell case. Upgrades are exhaustive, with Curtis Novak pickups, a USA harness with cloth-covered leads, Kluson Deluxe tuners, a premium tortoise pickguard, copper shielded cavities, a hand-carved bone nut, and a Mustang bridge.

A very early example from the golden age of Fender Japan production, this "Made in Japan" Jazzmaster is particularly rare, crafted at the famed Fujigen factory. A textbook example of everything we love about the Jazzmaster, the instrument has plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of defined and powerful tones from the two upgraded Curtis Novak USA-made single coil pickups, and warm, wooly sounds when switched to the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn. Pairing a JM-Vintage neck pickup with a JM-Fat bridge pickup, these premium gray bobbin single coils ensure a distinct, vital sound in every pickup position. Weighing 9lbs 1oz, this Jazzmaster balances well on a strap and has a clear, cutting acoustic voice. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster features fresh 11-49 strings, dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation.

The amber-tinted maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges for added comfort, measuring .785" deep at the 1st fret and .885" at the 12th. The dark rosewood fretboard has dot inlay, refretted with 6230 vintage-spec slender fretwire that has well-rounded crowns and plenty of meat, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. The scale length is a full 25 1/2", the fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius, and an upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures 42mm (1.650") in width. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with upgraded genuine Kluson Deluxe single line vintage-spec tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" designation and E-prefix serial number are present at the heel above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the wiring is completely upgraded, with the Curtis Novak pickups wired to a harness with USA-made CTS pots and cloth-covered leads. The pickup cavities and the underside of the pickguard have been shielded with copper tape, ensuring the lowest possible noise floor. The vibrato unit works smoothly and engages easily for quick warbles and surfy dives, working in concert with an upgraded Mustang-style bridge. The chrome hardware is in great shape, and plastics comprise upgraded uniformly aged pickup covers and knobs along with a premium deep red glossy tortoise pickguard.

The Olympic White gloss finish has a gently yellowed clear coat, showing some finish chips and dings, predominantly on the back and body perimeter, with buckle rash below the belly contour on the back, and two circular sticker tan lines. The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth, with a few minor marks along the profile length.

An era-correct '80s Fender molded hardshell case is included.

***We are dealers for the M2 Mastery bridge and OMV-P Offset Vibrato, either (or both!) of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
