Up for sale, a 1989 Charvel by Jackson Soloist Bass model SLB-125 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case. Made at the Chu Shin factory in Japan as part of a licensing agreement between IMC and Charvel/Jackson, this bass features rock maple neck-through construction with poplar body wings, a PJ pickup complement, and Jackson JE-2000 low impedance active electronics.
The neck-through construction ensures plenty of natural resonance and warmth, and the Jackson pickup configuration comprises a J-150 (J-style) single coil and a J-20 split-coil (P-style) pickup. This pickup pairing delivers punch, growl and grind, and the JE-2000 active electronics feature Bass and Treble EQ knobs. This SLB-125 weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action and spot-on intonation.
The rock maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with full shoulders, gaining a hair more heft in the upper registers, measuring .785” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has sharkfin inlay, and the jumbo fretwire is practically perfect. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the bound headstock, the black Jackson-stamped tuning machines hold pitch reliably.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a three-way pickup selector switch, Master Volume, and center-detent Bass and Treble EQ, powered by a 9v battery. Black-plated hardware includes the dome-topped knurled knobs and Jackson CBT-02 high-mass toploader bridge with a substantial string anchor block.
Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish includes a fair bit of scuffing along the pick path, some buckle rash on the back at the belly contour, and a handful of minor dings and faint scratches on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the lower bout perimeter. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.
