Up for sale, a 1988 Ibanez Roadstar II RB835 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and hangtags. Crafted at the Fujigen factory in Japan, the Roadstar series is the bolt-on sibling to the venerable Musician line, with the same top quality construction and components. This medium-scale offering was only produced from 1988-89, featuring a basswood body, maple neck, and slab rosewood fretboard, loaded with a pair of HI-B humbuckers.

The HI-B humbuckers are big and bold-sounding, with plenty of low end heft and harmonic richness balanced by sweet treble articulation. The three-way Tri-Sound mini toggles enable the humbuckers to toggle between parallel and series operation in humbucker mode, in addition to coil splitting functionality. The center detent Blend knob enables a smooth gradient between the pickups in their various configurations. This RB835 weighs 8lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.

The three-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining notable additional roundness in the upper registers, measuring .775” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The 24-fret thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut with a 10” radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire shows virtually no wear, playing cleanly up the 32” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The graphite nut measures 1 9/16” (40mm) in width. The headstock retains the brass “Roadstar” truss rod cover, and the set of Ibanez Smooth Tuner BII tuning machines turn (as the name would suggest) smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean gold plating. The back of the headstock retains the silver foil serial sticker.

On the body, the electronics work as intended, with center detent pickup Blend knob, Master Volume and Tone controls, and the dedicated Tri-Sound three-way mini toggles for series/parallel and coil tap functionality on each humbucker. Gold hardware includes the rugged Accu-Cast BII bridge, dome-top knurled knobs, and strap buttons.

The gloss Crystal Pearl finish has a subtle luster and shimmer, and cosmetic wear includes a number of minor scratches and nicks along the body perimeter and on the back, largely limited to the lower bout, plus one small finish chip on the back at the bass-side horn. The neck profile retains its smooth matching gloss, with a cluster of shallow marks behind frets 2-4 that are imperceptible to the palm while fretting.

The original Ibanez-branded faux leather padded gigbag is included, along with the Japanese hangtags/factory documentation.
