Up for sale, a 1988 Ibanez 540RHH in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced in Japan at the Fujigen factory as part of the Radius series, this Ibanez has a sleek, sculpted body and an Ultra neck profile, which is aerofoil-shaped (asymmetrical) with more shoulder on the bass side and slimmer treble side for exceptional comfort and lightning fast playing. Tonewoods include a basswood body, quartersawn maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The stock pair of IBZ USA F1 humbuckers were designed by Ibanez in conjunction with DiMarzio and, as the name would imply, wound in the USA. They feature a ceramic magnet design for a cutting, powerful sound that stays tight with distortion, with a slight mid scoop, rich lows and singing highs for exceptional articulation. This Ibanez weighs 7lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation. The quartersawn maple neck sports the aerofoil-style Ultra carve, with ample shoulder on the bass side and slimmed down on the treble side, with lightly rolled fretboard edges for further comfort and speed. It’s a notably slender profile, measuring .755” deep at the 1st fret and .855” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 17” radius, and the stock jumbo fretwire is practically perfect, with just a faint hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 4-6. This Ibanez plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The Top Lok III locking nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, and on the headstock, the black Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. All of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and original full-size Japanese pots that date to September, 1988. Black hardware includes the beehive knobs and the Edge tremolo locking tremolo, complete with its original arm. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish limited to a scant few tiny dings on the back and a handful of faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth satin shoulder on the neck profile is flawless. A padded faux leather gigbag is included.
