Up for sale, a 1988 Ibanez JEM7 RB in perfect working order. The first iteration of the JEM7 model only available from 1988-89, this rare Steve Vai signature JEM features a distinctive Root Beer finish and smooth “monkey grip” cutout. This particular JEM7 RB has been outfitted with a pair of Jackson J-80C ceramic humbuckers.

The tonewood complement comprises a basswood body, maple neck, and 24-fret slab rosewood fretboard. The replacement pair of Jackson J-80C humbuckers are built for gain, delivering huge tones with tight, aggressive lows, balanced by the sparkling cut and snap of the original DiMarzio JEM single coil in the middle position, pairing well with the humbuckers at positions 2 and 4 on the five-way pickups selector. This JEM7 weighs 6lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The unique Root Beer finish accents the broad grain in the basswood body, and cosmetic wear on this well-loved example includes several variably-sized chips along the perimeter, the largest of which is at the treble-side waist, buckle rash on the back at the upper bout, and a number of dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The maple neck retains its smooth satin finish.

A faux leather padded gigbag is included.
