Up for sale, a 1988 Gibson Les Paul Standard in 100% original, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A near-mint, one-owner instrument, this Les Paul has traditional tonewood ingredients including a carved maple cap and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body, with a certain sustain, punch, and fullness indicative of the early (modern era) Standard models.

At the heart of this Standard is the pair of original Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbuckers, known colloquially as Gibson's "circuit board" pickups. These medium output pickups are well-suited for heavy gain and warm, dynamic cleans, delivering an articulate array of tones that can be bright and punchy or thick and growling with the flip of a switch. Weighing 9lbs 12oz, this Les Paul has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and solid intonation.

The mahogany neck has a slender 60s-style C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with round shoulders in every register and a graceful increase in overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the original slender fretwire retains its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, with wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 7. The guitar plays well up the 24 3/4" scale, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. The nut is a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with lightly greened keystone buttons.

All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to '88. The chrome plating on the hardware is positively gleaming, comprising a Nashville bridge and matching stopbar, and all of the original plastic is present and near-mint including the quartet of gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, pickguard, and switch surround.

The original nitro lacquer Wine Red gloss finish is bold and saturated on the top, framed by cream binding. A sparingly played one-owner guitar carefully stored for decades, this Les Paul exhibits just a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original brown tolex "Gibson USA" hardshell case is included.
