Up for sale, a 1988 Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite Showcase Edition in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original “chainsaw” molded hardshell case and CoA. This rare Gibson is one of just 200 produced in the early days of the Custom Shop as part of the Showcase Edition series; nine models were produced over the course of the year, with staggered releases as a sort of “Guitar of the Month”-style program. This Les Paul Custom Lite features EMG 81 active pickups and a Goldtop nitro lacquer finish accented by black hardware and plastics.

Tonewoods include a slender mahogany body, carved maple top, one-piece mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard, and as the name would imply, this guitar is lightweight for an LP-style instrument at only 8lbs 7oz. The EMG 81s utilize powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, designed for optimal note detail, enhanced high end cut, and fluid sustain, engineered so that lead work will slice through even the densest mix. The bridge is taut and aggressive, and the neck has great girth and roaring fullness. This Showcase Edition Les Paul Custom Lite has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Goldtop nitro lacquer finish exhibits vertical checking across the top, with subtle greening at the bass-side lower bout edge where the arm rests. Cosmetic wear is limited to light buckle rash central to the back and just a scant few tiny dings on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.

The original “chainsaw” molded hardshell case is included, along with the Showcase Edition serialized CoA.
