Up for sale, a 1988 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62-55 in perfect working order, finished in custom color Rebel Yellow. This early “Made in Japan” Strat was produced at the famed Fujigen factory and marketed exclusively to the Japanese domestic market.Designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Strat circa 1962, tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The pickup complement includes the original alnico magnet ST-Vintage single coils in the neck and middle positions, with an upgraded era-correct (both to the instrument, and the era being reissued) Seymour Duncan SSL-1 in the bridge position. This pickup trio delivers a bevy of classic Strat tonalities; the neck is round and bell-like, and the bridge pickup provides sparkling cut, with thinned-out cut in the "in-between" positions on the three-way switch. This Strat weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gently increasing in overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .795” deep at the 1st fret and .955” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and retains flawless stock slender fretwire, ostensibly leveled and crowned in the instrument's lifetime. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock nut measures 42mm (1.650”) in width. The headstock sports a small pre-CBS shape and “spaghetti” logo, and the Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock retains the small “55” sticker, denoting the original model suffix and price when sold new (¥55,000). The “Made in Japan” text and E-prefix serial number are present above the four bolt “Fender”-embossed neck plate, and the neck pocket and heel retain their factory stamps, with a pencil date on the heel reading 4-12-88.All of the electronics work as intended, and the harness is original save for the Volume pot, a modern CTS replacement. The two original Tone pots date to March, 1988. The vintage-style vibrato is faithful to Fender's early 1960's design with a full-size trem block, actuating easily for quick surfy warbles and deeper dives. The chrome hardware still has plenty of shine, and the original knobs and pickup covers show uniform yellowing. The original custom color Rebel Yellow gloss finish is a rare option, and cosmetic wear includes a number of nicks and dings along the body perimeter, largely concentrated along the lower bout, and some additional marks where the forearm crosses the top. There are also a few faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth, with the exception of a few shallow dings on the shoulders at frets 9 and 10 that have no impact on playability. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
