Up for sale, a 1988 Fender Pro Feel Jazz Bass model JBR-800 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. A rare Fender Japan exclusive model with active electronics and top-tier craftsmanship, this Jazz Bass was produced at the famed Fujigen factory during the golden age of “Made in Japan” production.

Tonewoods include a lightweight ash body with broad, dynamic grain, a maple neck, and a thick slab rosewood fretboard, and this bass is bright and articulate-sounding, with plenty of authority and note attack and a complex midrange character that accentuates the smooth growl and upper-mid burp of the single coil pickup pair. The pair of Hotrod 7J pickups are coupled to an active preamp with a Master Volume knob, center detent Balance pot for a smooth gradient between the two pickups, and center detent Bass and Treble EQ knobs. As such, the tonal palette is broad, offering boosted thump and plenty of detail. This bass weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and well-rounded shoulders at the nut, gaining a hair more heft in the upper registers, measuring .805” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 9 1/2“ radius, and the stock medium jumbo fretwire is practically perfect, with just a touch of wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width, and the headstock features vintage-style nickel-plated tuners with full-size baseplates and clover buttons, which exhibit uniform surface patina. The back of the headstock retains the small “80” sticker, denoting the original price (¥80,000) when sold new in Japan. The neck plate and heel are contoured, offering extended access to the higher frets, with a micro-tilt adjustment, and the “Made in Japan” text and G-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt plate.

All of the electronics function flawlessly, with perfect "Fender" gold silkscreening on the pickup covers and gleaming chrome dome-topped knurled knobs on the stock control array. The control cavity houses a trio of mini circuit boards in addition to the original potentiometers, as well as a space for the 9v battery powering the active preamp. The bridge is a top-loader design with heavy-duty saddles, officially model FBT-4C.

The gloss See-Through Red finish highlights the dynamic, broad grain of the ash body, with cosmetic wear limited to a trio of small dings on the lower bout on top, a handful of minor nicks along the body perimeter, and a few additional minor marks on the back. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
