Up for sale, a 1988 Fender Precision Bass '57 vintage reissue PB57-55L in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare, left-handed iteration of Fender Japan's 1957 Precision platform, this bass features a basswood body and one-piece maple neck, yielding a smooth, clear natural acoustic platform. Strung with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings, the bass has plenty of detailed growl and broad thump. The bass weighs 9lbs 2oz, benefitting from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with accurate intonation and comfortable action.
The neck has a round, chunky C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The slender frets show no wear, playing cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42.5mm in width (fractionally shy of a full 1 11/16"). The headstock retains the original tuning machines with full-size baseplates and light surface patina on the nickel plating. The early "Made in Japan" text and E-prefix serial number are present above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate. The neck heel is pencil dated 5-13-88, and the PB57L factory stamps are present in the neck pocket and on the heel.
The electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and full-size pots. The chrome-plated hardware is bright and clean, and cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to just a few small dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the lower bout edge. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is nigh-flawless.
A modern Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
