Up for sale, a 1988 Fender American Vintage '52 Esquire/Telecaster Partscaster in excellent conditions and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This unique Esquire combines a genuine 1988 Fender American Vintage ‘52 neck paired with a custom-made body, finished in Sherwood Green nitro lacquer. The finish is heavily relic'd, complete with aged hardware and plastics. The traditional '50s tonewood complement includes an ash body and one-piece maple neck, weighing 7lbs 5oz with a resonant and full natural acoustic quality, offering both treble cut and sonic depth. These qualities are faithfully captured by the Vintage Inspired Pickups TELEX bridge pickup. Hand-wound in the USA and designed to recreate the sound and feel of early Blackguard pickups, this single coil is wound with 43 AWG wire and features flat pole Alnico V rod magnets and a copper baseplate, delivering snappy twang and chewy percussive cut. This Esquire has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The genuine Fender American Vintage ‘52 one-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and modest shoulder at the nut, gaining more heft and roundness in the higher registers of the fretboard, measuring .775” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the original slender frets have been lightly leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime, showing no wear and retaining a notable amount of meat given their size. This Esquire plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures 1.650” in width. The headstock sports a round string tree, and the original "Fender Telecaster" waterslide decal is partially intact. The Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The neck heel retains the original pencil date, which reads 11-18-88, and the heel is also stamped by Hector Montes, one of the more prominent names to shape Fender's American Vintage necks. All of the electronics function as intended; the VIP TELEX pickup is governed by Volume and Tone controls with a three-way Esquire-style Tone switch. In position 1 the Tone control is bypassed, in position 2 it functions normally, and in position 3 the signal is filtered for a rounder, compressed sound, enabling instant switching between sparkling bite and percussive cut. As with all Esquires, the body is also factory routed for a neck pickup and can be easily converted to Telecaster spec. The chrome-plated dome-top knurled knobs, control plate, neck plate and bridge base all have faux aging, as do the brass saddles. The control plate has also been reversed, allowing for easier on-the-fly volume adjustments. The one-ply black pickguard exhibits simulated wear and chipping as part of the relic process and not attributable to genuine playwear. The custom color nitro lacquer finish falls somewhere between Ocean Turquoise and Sherwood Green in its tint and saturation, and there is sparingly little wear of note beyond the simulated aging on the body. The neck profile retains its notably smooth ambered goss, with some wear through the gloss on the fingerboard and also on the profile shoulders, the majority of which is worn smooth through play.A faux alligator hardshell case with leopard print plush interior is included.
