Up for sale, a 1988 Fender American Standard Stratocaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the earliest Corona factory American Standard Strats, this rare Torino Red-finished iteration reflects the high quality reinvention of the Stratocaster platform in the modern era. With reverence for Fender's past and a host of modern, player-friendly features, this alder-bodied USA Strat features a 9 1/2" fretboard radius on the 22 fret slab rosewood fingerboard, medium jumbo fretwire, a two-point tremolo and Schaller tuning machines, and first-year TBX tone control circuitry, all tweaks on the classic Strat platform that ensure optimal playability and tone. The trio of alnico magnet single coil pickups offer plenty of bite and articulation, and the neck pickup is particularly sparkling, with a round, bell-like tone that's perfect for lead work. Naturally, the five-way switch offers classic Strat quack in the 2 and 4 positions as well. The guitar balances well on a strap and weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve at the nut with particularly prominent shoulders in every register and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The slab 22 fret rosewood fretboard is a particularly dark cut of this tonewood with dynamic stripes in the grain running the length of the board. The stock medium jumbo frets have plenty of meat, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5, with wear growing increasingly lighter until fret 11. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock retains the original Fender-stamped Schaller tuning machines which turn very smoothly and hold pitch well with clean chrome plating. All of the original electronics function as intended with the traditional Strat control complement, untouched solder joints, and original CTS pots which date to the 25th week of '87. Featuring one of the very first TBX tone pots (1988 was the introductory year), this unique center detent pot enhances your tonal palette without the use of a battery. From 0-5, the TBX is a standard tone control, but from 5-10 the resistance decreases, allowing more bass, treble, presence and output to flow to your amp. The hardware and plastic parts are notably clean, and the two-point tremolo system has a very smooth and responsive feel, complete with bent steel saddles and the original arm.The Torino Red gloss finish exhibits one light scratch on the bass-side body horn, a spot of faint buckle rash at the edge of the belly contour, and a few scattered small dings and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.A black tolex Fender-branded hardshell case is included.
