Up for sale, a 1987 Ibanez RG540 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and hangtags. This uncommon Ibanez was crafted at the Fujigen factory as part of the Roadstar II series, built to shred with features including an SSH pickup complement, Edge tremolo, and Wizard neck profile with a 24-fret maple fretboard.
A basswood body and a maple neck round out the tonewood complement, and this RG540 weighs 7lbs 14oz. The pickup complement comprises a V2 humbucker at the bridge and two Super 8A single coils in the neck and middle positions. The V2 humbucker is one of Ibanez’s longest enduring designs, plenty hot with aggressive low-mids balanced by a buttery smooth top end. Additionally, the push/pull coil tap at the Tone knob enables single coil sparkle. The Super 8A single coils feature Alnico V constriction, described by Ibanez as “tight, but bright. Very dynamic for chording and rhythm,” pairing well with the humbucker. This RG540 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.
