Up for sale, a 1987 Greco EB-65 bass in perfect working order. Part of Greco’s lauded Mint Collection era of production, this SG-style bass was crafted at the venerable Fujigen factory in Japan (also home to the Gibson-sanctioned Orville line of instruments), uncommon outside of its country of origin.A faithful iteration of the EB-3L platform (with a full 34" scale length), this Greco model is quite versatile; delivering warm, midrange rich snarl from the mini humbucker in the bridge position and powerful low end thump from the neck position “mudbucker”-style pickup. With dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, it’s easy to dial a wide range of sounds for the studio or the stage. The bass weighs 7lbs 12oz, and tonewoods comprise a solid mahogany body and mahogany neck capped with a rosewood fretboard, ensuring plenty of fundamental warmth and smooth growl. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, this Greco EB boasts comfortable action and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with well rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard retains the stock medium jumbo frets which have their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing only a hint of wear beneath the strings on frets 1-2. This bass plays cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The replaced nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports an “open book” shape, with chrome-plated tuners which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The B87-prefix serial on the back of the headstock dates to February, 1987.All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by dedicated Volume and Tone knobs and a three-way pickup selector switch. The original full-size Japanese pots date to 1987, and the harness has been upgraded with Sprague Orange Drop tone caps. Nickel-plated hardware includes the three-point bridge, and plastics comprise the original quartet of witch hat knobs along with a new, custom-made multi-ply pickguard that matches the materials and dimensions of the original guard. There are a number of small doweled and touched-up mounting holes on the top where a larger non-original pickguard was previously installed and subsequently removed. The dark gloss Cherry finish exhibits a number of small dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole, with an area of light buckle rash on the bass-side of the back, The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and clean, save for a few shallow nicks along the profile length that have no impact on playability.A gigbag is included.
