1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom Vintage Guitar Cherry Sunburst w/ Tim Shaw PAFs, Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Gibson "chainsaw" case. 100% original save for a pair of modern Gibson strap buttons, this Les Paul Custom features a dark Cherry Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish, hailing from an increasingly vaunted era of Gibson production. Making the most of the classic combination of a solid mahogany body, carved three-piece maple top, one-piece mahogany neck and genuine ebony fretboard, this Gibson is on the lighter side for a late '80s Custom, weighing 9lbs 9oz and delivering a bold, barking natural acoustic sound with plenty of sustain and resonance.

At the heart of this Les Paul Custom are the pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers (from the last full year these pickups were offered). These pickups represent Gibson's first attempt at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design. Offered for only a few short years in the '80s, the Shaws are designed with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving the harmonic complexity, power, and tonal clarity of the original PAF. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Custom is dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action and solid intonation.

The dark gloss Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the very well-matched seams on the carved three-piece maple top, the plastics are notably clean, and the gold-plated hardware exhibits only light patina on the bridge pickup cover and Nashville bridge. Cosmetic wear is limited to very faint scuffing in the clear coat at the treble-side waist on the back (shy of buckle rash), and a few additional small dings, also largely relegated to the back. The top presents extremely cleanly, and the neck profile retains its smooth gloss, free of palm wear.

The original molded plastic Gibson "chainsaw" case with blue plush interior is included.
