Up for sale, a 1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded “chainsaw” hardshell case and warranty card. This Black Beauty Les Paul Custom comes from an increasingly vaunted era of Gibson production, featuring a gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish and the original pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers.
Featuring the classic tonewood complement of a solid mahogany body, carved three-piece maple top, one-piece mahogany neck and genuine ebony fretboard, this Les Paul weighs 9lbs 12oz. At the heart of this Les Paul Custom are the pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers (from the last full year these pickups were offered). These pickups represent Gibson's first attempt at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design. Offered for only a few short years in the '80s, the Shaws are designed with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving the harmonic complexity, power, and tonal clarity of the original PAF. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Ebony finish is well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to a small finish scuff on the back at the treble-side waist and faint wear in the clear coat from contact with the case lining on the base-side lower bout. There are also a few minor marks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole, most prominent on the top at the lower bout. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss, with a couple shallow marks behind frets 1-3.
The original “chainsaw” molded plastic hardshell case with blue plush interior is included, along with the original warranty card.
