Up for sale, a 1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded “chainsaw” hardshell case. This Black Beauty Les Paul Custom comes from an increasingly vaunted era of Gibson production, featuring a gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish, loaded with one Tim Shaw PAF and one T-Top humbucker.
Tonewoods include a solid mahogany body, carved three-piece maple top, one-piece mahogany neck and genuine ebony fretboard, weighing 9lbs 12oz. At the heart of this Les Paul Custom is a unique humbucker pair, with the original Tim Shaw PAF in the neck position, and a T-Top that actually predates the guitar at the bridge (1979). The Tim Shaw PAF represented Gibson's first attempt at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design, with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving a certain harmonic complexity, power, and tonal clarity. The T-Top in the bridge is detailed and growling, ensuring a distinct sound in every pickup position. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Ebony finish is framed by deeply ambered body binding, with some chipping through the clear coat along the lower bout binding edge. There are a few extremely faint marks behind the bridge on top from four roughly 1” square sized stickers which were previously removed, in addition to buckle rash at the bass-side waist on the back and some small nicks and scuffs, largely on the back and lower bout rim. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, free of palm wear.
The original “chainsaw” molded plastic hardshell case with blue plush interior is included.
