Up for sale a 1987 Fender Stratocaster ‘72 vintage reissue model ST72-55 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A very rare left-handed variant, this early Fujigen-made Strat was produced during the golden age of “Made in Japan” production, emblematic of the exceptional craftsmanship for which Fender Japan is known.Tonewoods include an ash body and one-piece maple neck, with a natural acoustic tone that offers the midrange heft and immediacy of ash, and the treble articulation of maple. The original trio of ST-Vintage alnico magnet flat pole single coil pickups capture a range of classic Strat tones; throaty and round at the neck, bright and sparkling at the bridge, and delivering hollow squawk in the in-between positions on the five-way switch. This Strat weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder, measuring .805” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius, and the slender frets are pristine, with well-rounded crowns and their full factory height. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The ‘70s-style large headstock has a simple Fender logo and Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and F-prefix serial number are present above the three-bolt neck plate. The neck pocket retains its ST-72 model stamp. All of the electronics work as they should, with the trio of alnico magnet single coils wired to the stock Japanese harness with untouched solder joints and full-size pots that date to July of 1987. Hardware includes the chrome-plated bridge which has a full-size tremolo block for optimal sustain and clarity, and the vibrato responds effortlessly for dives and expressive warbles, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. Plastics include the original trio of knobs and three-ply black pickguard. The gloss Natural finish highlights the wide, dynamic grain of the ash body. This is a particularly well-kept example, with cosmetic wear limited to a scant few light finish scratches and microscopic dings on the body as a whole. A second strap button has been added on the treble-aide horn for Hendrix-style inverted right-handed playing. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.A gigbag is included.
