Up for sale, a 1987 Fender PJR65 Jazz Bass Special in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. Made at the Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, this Jazz Bass Special model PJR65 is rarely seen outside its country of origin. Unique both visually and sonically, this PJ features extra contoured cutaways, a matching black headstock, gold hardware, and active electronics. The bass has both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup, and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge, accentuated by the active Bass and Treble controls. This PJR65 weighs 7lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.

The one-piece maple neck has a particularly slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .785” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and pristine stock medium jumbo firewire. The bass features a full 34" scale length, and despite the Precision body shape, the instrument features the slender, easily navigable 1 1/2" nut width typically attributed to Fender's Jazz Bass model. The matching headstock features the original lightweight gold Gotoh tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

All of the original electronics work as intended, with a Master Volume and center-detent Blend, Bass, and Treble controls for the PJ configuration. The rare stock Fender "F" knobs are present, with grippy rubber collars still intact. The hardware shows a hint of patina, and retains the majority of its gold plating. Cosmetic wear is limited to light scuffing in the finish mostly relegated to the pick path and back of the body horns, with an isolated shallow scratch vertically extending from the top bass side of the body. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.

The original Fender gigbag is included.
