Up for sale, a 1987 Fender Jazz Bass Fretless ‘62 vintage reissue model JB62-60FL in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, upgraded with Fender Original black bobbin pickups and a vintage-spec wiring harness with all USA parts. An early “Made in Japan” bass produced at the Fujigen factory exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, the Fender Japan instrument is rarely seen outside of its country of origin, featuring a clean, unaged Olympic White gloss finish
Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck and an unlined slab rosewood fretboard, resulting in a balanced, smooth acoustic quality. The Fender American Original pickup pair features black fiber bobbins, cloth-covered leads and alnico magnets, offering ample midrange presence and burp, with excellent low end authority and just a touch of aggressive growl. This Jazz Bass weighs 9lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 D’Addario Chromes flatwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and quite a bit of heft and roundness as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .810” deep at the nut and .975” at the octave. The unlined slab rosewood fingerboard has a 7 1/4“ radius, side dots for easy navigation, and very light wear on the rosewood beneath the strings. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock bone nut measures 1 1/2” in width. The headstock sports an era-accurate “Fender Jazz Bass” decal and retains the original tuning machines, which have full-size baseplates and clover buttons with a light dusting of surface patina. The tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and E-prefix serial are present above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the upgraded USA Fender pickups wired to a brand new harness with CTS pots and a Sprague Orange Drop tone cap. The pickups feature dedicated Volume knobs and a Master Tone control. The original four-saddle bridge has clean chrome plating, and the vintage-correct copper ground strip is present between the shielding plate in the bridge pickup cavity and the bridge itself. Plastics include the original reddish-brown tortoise pickguard which has some light scuffing on the treble side of the strum path, and the original trio of knobs. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Olympic White finish is limited to a handful of minor nicks around the bridge on the top and along the lower bout perimeter. The smooth ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
A gigbag is included.
