Up for sale, a 1987 Fender American Vintage '57 Stratocaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and tweed hardshell case. This early Corona, CA factory example of the American Vintage '57 platform features an alder body and one-piece maple neck, yielding a balanced, snappy natural acoustic tone.

Via the original trio of black bobbin alnico magnet single coils, this Strat can chime, sparkle, and quack with the best, delivering an array of classic Fender tones. Whether it's the biting twang of the bridge position, the extra warmth and girth that comes from the neck single coil (ideal for lead work), or the thinned-out quack on the "in-between" positions on the three-way switch, this Strat is simply a delight to play. The guitar weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .880" at the 12th. The fretboard has a 7 1/4" vintage-spec Fender radius, refretted with jumbo fretwire which has tons of meat, showing very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-10. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. The nut measures 1.650" in width. On the headstock, the Fender Stratocaster waterslide decal is flawless, and the Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The neck heel is pencil dated 1/13/87, and the four-bolt neck plate has an early V-prefix serial number.

The electronics include the original trio of Fender's 57/62 black bobbin pickups with unbeveled alnico pole pieces and cloth-covered leads, wired to original CTS pots which date to the 38th week of '82 (there is a precedent for CTS pots from the very beginning of Fender's Fullerton reissue run lasting through the latter half of the '80s in some instances). The original three-way pickup selector is present in the case, and a five-way is currently installed. The body routes and pickguard have both been professionally shielded with copper tape for the best possible noise floor. Plastics include the original one-ply white pickguard and pickup covers, with a set of cream knobs currently installed (whiter original knobs are present in the case). The chrome plating on the hardware is bright and clean, and the vibrato works very smoothly with three springs, responding quickly and reliably for quick shimmies and deeper dives.

The custom color gloss nitro lacquer Surf Green finish exhibits one large finish chip at the edge of the neck pocket, and a smaller chip adjacent to the neck plate. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to light scuffing on the lower bout on the back, a few dings and scuffs on the body as a whole, a couple of which are adjacent to the bridge on top. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh-flawless, worn to a satin-esque feel from contact with the palm.

The original tweed hardshell case is included, with the original three-way switch and knobs, "ashtray" bridge cover, polish cloth, one original hangtag, and one reproduction (non-factory) hangtag.
