Up for sale, a 1987 Epiphone Nouveau NV-J vintage archtop electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. A short-lived and particularly rare model, the Nouveau line was born out of Gibson’s post-Norlin ownership, with instruments produced in Japan and assembled in Gibson’s USA Nashville factory.
This Nouveau bears a loose resemblance to D’Aquisto’s Jim Hall model, with a 16” lower bout, spruce top, maple back/sides and a maple neck capped by a bound rosewood fingerboard. Weighing 6lbs 5oz, the acoustic response is smooth and woody with terrific projection, and this Nouveau bears the distinction of being Gibson’s only model beyond the Howard Roberts to mount a full-size floating humbucker. Plugged in, there’s a rich, midrange-forward cut from the floating pickup, with pickguard-mounted Volume/Tone controls. This Nouveau benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 13-56 flatwound nickel strings and easy-playing action.
