Up for sale, a 1986 Yamaha SG7 Blue Jeans Custom 20th Anniversary edition in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Released to commemorate the highest-tier original “flying samurai” model, this SG7 sports a Moss Green finish accented by gold hardware.
The first “flying samurai” guitar was designed in conjunction with Japanese surf guitar legend Takeshi Terauchi, and the original SG-5A “Blue Jeans Custom” model was only produced for one year (1967), achieving a mythic status among Japanese surf guitarists that led to later reissues. Of those reissues, this is among the finest ever made, produced to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of that iconic instrument. This is an uncommon example (even among the already uncommon base model) featuring a straight neck pickup and unbound fingerboard, and a previous owner has carefully applied a “Blue Jeans Custom” decal to the headstock with overspray to faithfully emulate the design of the ‘67 original.
Tonewoods include an alder body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard, yielding a smooth, balanced natural acoustic tone. Tonally, the trio of single coil pickups offer bold, sparkling cleans with plenty of meat and roundness, yet clear and defined in every pickup position. The middle and bridge pickups are coupled both visually and tonally, with a blend pot for a smooth gradient between the coils. This SG7 Blue Jeans Custom 20th Anniversary weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The Yamaha badge on the peghead has been relocated slightly, and the face and back of the headstock have been oversprayed to protect the custom-made “Blue Jeans Custom” inlay-style decal.
The gloss Moss Green finish presents as black from a distance, and this is a well-kept example, with some faint scratches on the back and just a few tiny dings on the lower bout. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.
The original hardshell case is included.
