Up for sale, a 1986 Yamaha SFX-1 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This rare Yamaha model was only produced from 1986-88, designed in collaboration with legendary Japanese guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto, frontman for one of Japan’s first-ever (and longest lasting) metal/hard rock bands, Bow Wow. This particular model is the top-tier offering for the SFX line, featuring a pair of Power Guerilla I humbuckers, a Rockin’ Magic II tremolo, and brass hardware.

Tonewoods comprise a mahogany body with an arched maple top and a set maple neck capped with a bound rosewood fretboard. The Power Guerilla I humbuckers feature rail pole pieces, delivering thick, warm tones, aggressive low-mids, and singing trebles. These humbuckers take gain notably well, retaining excellent definition. Additionally, the Bi-Sound mini-toggle enables single coil-style tonalities without actually splitting the humbucker, thinning the tone out slightly without adding any hum, and the Booster toggle adds significant power and punch to the sound. Weighing 10lbs, this SFX-1 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Wine Red finish is effectively a red sunburst, framed by multi-ply binding. Cosmetic wear includes a bit of pick scuffing along the strum path, light buckle rash central to the back, and a number of tiny dings on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a couple shallow marks that don't distract the palm while fretting.

The original gigbag is included, along with the hangtags/factory documentation.
