Up for sale, a 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II Series RG650 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original warranty card and Ibanez-branded gigbag. Only produced for one year, the RG650 represented a transition from the earlier Roadstar II series to the RG series. Made in Japan and virtually unseen outside its country of origin, this guitar is a proper Superstrat with an HSS pickup configuration and Floyd Rose-licensed tremolo.Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck and thick slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard. The neck and middle pickups are a pair of ceramic magnet Super 7F single coils, which are bold and smooth, offering plenty of Strat-y sparkle and cut. The bridge position IBZ humbucker is aggressive and chunky, with robust midrange presence and plenty of bite. The bridge pickup also has "Duo-Sound" functionality via a Push/Push coil tap on the Tone pot. In its single coil configuration, the IBZ is plenty spanky, but retains a bit more aggression and midrange than the 7Fs, and all three pickups take gain very well. Weighing 7lbs 10oz, this Ibanez has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, spot-on intonation and low action. The maple neck has a modestly slender Roadstar Deluxe C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .915” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features pearloid dot inlay and original jumbo frets which are remarkably clean with well-rounded crowns and virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The Top-Lok III locking nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the Ibanez Smooth Tuner II tuners indeed do turn smoothly and hold consistent pitch, working in concert with the locking nut and tremolo system. The electronics function as intended, with the HSS pickup complement governed by a five-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls, the latter of which contains the Push/Push coil split for the IBZ Humbucker. The gold hardware shows light surface patina, including the Floyd Rose-licensed Edge double locking tremolo system. Plastics include the one-ply matte black pickguard. The gloss Black finish on the body is extremely clean, with the only notable wear being a small ding and scratch in the finish on the back adjacent to the tremolo cavity cover and some small nicks on top behind the Floyd Rose route. The neck profile is clean and smooth with sparingly little wear. The original Ibanez-branded oxblood faux leather gigbag is included, along with the original serialized warranty card.
