Up for sale, a 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II RB550 bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted at the Fujigen factory in Japan, the Roadstar is the bolt-on sibling to the venerable Musician line, with the same top quality construction and components. Featuring a gloss Polar White finish over a solid basswood body, slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard on a three-ply maple neck, and stock pair of Super Hi-BS single coil pickups, this Roadstar II bass is versatile rhythmic force. There's plenty of midrange presence and burp from the bridge pickup, with a nice punchy growl and smooth thump from the neck pickup. The center-detent Pickup Balancer knob also allows for a smooth gradient between the two pickups. Weighing 9lbs 6oz, this Roadstar II has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with full shoulders in every register and a gradual increase in overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The dark slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and pristine stock medium jumbo fretwire. The bass plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The scale length is a full 34”, and the nut measures 1 1/2” in width. The headstock features a metal Roadstar truss rod cover, Ibanez logo, and set of Ibanez Smooth Tuner B II machine heads that live up to their name.
On the body, the electronics work as they should with a center detent Pickup Balancer, Master Volume, and Master Tone controls for the stock pair of pickups. The chrome plating on the hardware has plenty of shine, including the heavy-duty Accu-Cast B II top-loader bridge, trio of knurled knobs, and V-shaped strap buttons. The gloss Polar White finish is extremely clean, and cosmetic wear is limited to one finish scratch at the bass-side waist on the back, and just a few additional minor marks and faint finish scuffs on the body as a whole.
A padded gigbag is included.
