Up for sale, a 1986 Fender "Order Made" Telecaster in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, outfitted from the factory with a neck position mini humbucker. This guitar boasts circa 1954 Telecaster aesthetics and tonewoods with a one-ply white pickguard, Butterscotch finish over an ash body, and one-piece maple neck.A true one-off as part of Fender Japan's Order Made program of non-catalog guitars during their golden age of Fujigen factory production, this Telecaster has an utterly unique pickup complement, with a Gibson-style mini humbucker in the neck position, and a traditional flat-pole Tele bridge position single coil. The humbucker has a certain body and punch, yet with more detail and lively treble zing than a full size dual coil pickup. The bridge pickup pairs well, with a chewy twang and sparkling cut. This Tele weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and low action. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .910” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has Fender's vintage spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius, and the original slender fretwire has been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime with decent meat remaining, currently only showing faint wear beneath the B and High E strings on frets 1-3. There is sporadic wear through the fretboard gloss, all worn smooth through additional play and not distracting to the fingers in the slightest. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"), and on the headstock, the Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck pocket retains the Order Made stamp and order number, while the "Made in Japan" text is present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and full-size pots (the pots are of a different vendor than widely used on Fender Japan guitars of the era, yet also documented on other early examples). The "Pat. Pending" bridge has six barrel saddles for optimal intonation, and the bridge base is embossed with the A-prefix serial number. The gloss Butterscotch finish exhibits a few large finish chips of note on the back body edge and surrounding the rear strap button. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to a few tiny dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
