Up for sale, a 1986 Fender Telecaster ‘72 vintage reissue left-handed model TL72-55 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Following in the footsteps of the venerable "JV" line that kicked off Fender Japan's vintage reissue run, this early Fender Japan Telecaster was produced at the Fujigen factory during the golden age of "Made in Japan" production.Tonewoods include an ash body and a maple neck capped with a rosewood fretboard, and the guitar delivers plenty of treble cut, midrange heft and overarching tonal breadth, qualities faithfully captured by the stock pair of single coil pickups. The bridge pickup has ample twang and snappy sparkle, and the neck has a bell-like roundness which is warm yet retains a clear percussive edge. This Tele weighs 7lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .895” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire is practically perfect, ostensibly leveled and crowned in the guitar's lifetime, with just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-2. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The headstock sports an E-prefix serial, and the Fender Japan-stamped tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text is present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck heel and pocket retain the factory stamps. All of the electronics function as intended, with a three-way selector switch, Master Volume and Tone controls, and full-size Japanese pots that date to November of ‘86. The neck pickup retains its original windings, and the bridge pickup has just been rewound to match. The hardware shows some minor flaking of the chrome plating on the flat-topped knurled knobs, and the “Pat. Pend” bridge base has a light dusting of patina, with clean steel barrel saddles. Plastics include the three-ply black pickguard.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish includes some dings on the body as a whole, most prominently on the treble-side perimeter at the waist. There's also a finish chip adjacent to the rear strap button, which has been relocated adjacent to its original placement. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with a handful of shallow marks along the profile length that don't distract the palm while fretting. The original faux leather gigbag is included.
