Up for sale, a circa 1986 Fender Rosewood Telecaster vintage reissue model TL69-115 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. An exacting reissue of the rare Telecaster model made famous by George Harrison in the waning days of the Beatles, this non-catalog instrument is a higher-tiered example, produced in the golden age of "Made in Japan" production at the Fujigen factory. And while advertised as a '69 reissue, the instrument has the chambered body construction associated with 1971-72 Rosewood Telecasters. This TL69-115 retains its original pair of factory-installed USA-made Fender American Vintage black bobbin pickups, and the natural acoustic tone of the rosewood body/neck is lively, detailed and warm. The black bobbin pickups feature alnico magnet construction with vintage-spec winds and cloth-covered leads, yielding a woody, percussive cut in the neck position and quintessential Tele twang and sparkle with the bridge pickup selected. Weighing 9lbs 4oz, this Telecaster has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The one-piece rosewood (with maple skunk stripe) neck has a moderately slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The fretboard has a high-gloss finish, dot inlay, and pristine slender fretwire, playing cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, carved from bone for optimal sustain and note clarity. On the headstock, the F-stamped tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The neck pocket is simply stamped "Rose," denoting the instrument's rosewood construction, and the “Made in Japan” text is present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics function as intended, with the original pair of American Vintage series black bobbin single coil pickups wired to an upgraded harness, with 250k USA-made CTS pots that date to the 37th week of 1993. The circuit also features a treble bleed on the Volume pot, ensuring ideal top end detail when rolling the knob back, and the neck pickup has been rewound to factory spec (the bridge pickup retains its original windings). Hardware includes the A-prefix serial-embossed bridge base, which typically correlates to a 1985-86 build date, however, we have seen these plates used through the end of the '80s in some instances. The bridge saddles have been substituted for the early '60s spiral style, and the bridge base can accommodate six individual saddles if desired. A pair of dome-topped knurled knobs and a chrome-plated control plate round out the hardware, and plastics include the original three-ply black pickguard. The gloss finish highlights the tight vertical grain in the rosewood body, and this is a notably well-kept Telecaster, with cosmetic wear limited to a few tiny dings on the lower bout perimeter and a handful of light finish scratches on the back. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.A black tolex hardshell case is included, along with a few hangtags.
