Up for sale, a 1986 Fender Jazzmaster '62 vintage reissue model JM66-70 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. Notably rare and hailing from the first year the Jazzmaster appeared in the Fender Japan catalog, this guitar was produced at the Fujigen factory in Fender Japan's golden age.

Lightweight at 7lbs 7oz, tonewoods comprise an alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, yielding a clear, balanced natural acoustic quality. The original alnico magnet pickups offer plenty of sparkle and cut, with a range of defined and powerful tones between the two coils. Warmer, wooly sounds can be accessed via the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster features fresh 11-49 strings, dialed in for low action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a fast-feeling slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .900” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard sports a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the original slender fretwire is practically perfect, retaining good height and benefitting from a recent level and crown. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, carved from bone for optimal clarity and sustain. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck heel and pocket have matching JM66-70 model markings. The “Made in Japan” text and E-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt, “Fender”-embossed neck plate.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the full-size Lead Circuit pots dating to May and June, 1986. Hardware includes the original vibrato unit and bridge with spiral saddles, and the vibrato acutates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch from surfy warbles and deeper expressions. Plastics include the lightly yellowed pickup covers and knobs, and the dark brown tortoise pickguard has a particular color and pattern only used on the earliest Fender Japan models.

The Olympic White gloss finish exhibits some finish checking along the edge of the neck plate and inside edge of the treble-side cutaway, with further cosmetic wear limited to just a handful of tiny dings and faint marks on the body as a whole, and some very light buckle worming on the back at the belly contour. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
