Up for sale, a 1986 Fender Jazzmaster '62 vintage reissue model JM66-70 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A first-year example from the golden age of Fender Japan production, this "Made in Japan" Jazzmaster is extremely rare, crafted at the famed Fujigen factory. Visually and sonically distinct from the vast majority of Fender Japan Jazzmasters, this guitar features an ash body (as opposed to the usual alder or basswood), and a highly figured flame maple neck.At 8lbs 15oz, the guitar has notable punch and sonic heft when strummed acoustically, benefitting from the midrange authority and note attack of ash as a tonewood. These qualities are translated faithfully through the original single coil pair, and the instrument has plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of defined and powerful tones from the two alnico magnet pickups. Warmer, wooly sounds are engaged via the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster features fresh 11-49 strings, dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation. The amber-tinted maple neck has both birdseye and flame figuring extending the length of the profile and across the headstock. The neck carve is a slender C shape with nicely rounded shoulders and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .890" at the 12th. The dark rosewood fretboard has dot inlay and the original flawless slender vintage-style fretwire, ostensibly lightly dressed in the guitar's lifetime and retaining good height and crown. The guitar plays easily in every register up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius, and the nut measures 42mm (1.650") in width. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" designation is present at the heel just above the four-bolt neck plate which is embossed with a very early A-prefix serial number. All of the electronics work as they should, and the wiring includes full-size "Made in Japan" stamped pots and a few upgrades including cloth-covered leads between the pickup selector and Rhythm Circuit, and upgraded switches and input jack. Hardware includes the original vibrato unit and an upgraded bridge with Mustang-style barrel saddles for increased stability and sustain. Plastics comprise a CIJ-era dark brown tortoise pickguard and original bright white pickup covers and knobs that show sparingly little yellowing. The Sunburst gloss finish is highly unique, much more vibrant than most with deep black edges and a prominent central red ring, highlighting the extremely dynamic grain of the ash body. There's also some flame figuring in the ash on the bass-side of the body. Cosmetic wear is limited to some minor dings and scuffs on the back, primarily in the black of the burst on the lower bout body edge, and just a few additional minor marks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, highlighting a highly figured cut of maple.A padded Fender-branded gigbag is included.***We are dealers for the M2 Mastery bridge, OMV-P Offset Vibrato, and Jazzmaster pickups from Curtis Novak and Lollar, any of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
