Up for sale, a 1986 B.C. Rich Mockingbird Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A rare Japan market exclusive model from the NJ Series (Nagoya, Japan), this bass has a commanding, powerful tone with rich sustain and a myriad of tonal options. The original pair of high output split coil Precision-style pickups offer double the thump and heft with intense tonal sculpting available. Controls include a Master Volume, three-way pickup selector, Preamp Volume, Preamp On/Off switch, 6-position Varitone, Phase switch, Dual Sound neck pickup switch, Dual sound bridge pickup switch, and a Master Tone control to round things out. The bass can sound muscly and defined, and engaging the preamp pushes your rig to its limit for mean grind. The bass weighs 9lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with a fresh set of 45-100 roundwound strings. The neck has a slender C-shaped profile at the nut with modest shoulder and easy playability in every register, measuring .785” deep at the 1st fret and .910” at the 12th. The slab ebony fretboard features pearl diamond inlay and stock jumbo fretwire. The frets have good height and meat with virtually no wear, and the bass plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The scale length is a full 34”, and the nut measures 1 9/16“ in width. The peghead features a rosewood veneer and set of chrome BC Rich-branded tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. On the body, all electronics function as intended, with clean black knurled knobs, a chicken head Varitone rotary selector, and series of mini toggle switches. The full-size Japanese pots are all original and date to '86. On the heavy-duty chrome bridge, the strings anchor into a particularly thick block, and the saddles are equally robust. Cosmetic wear on the gloss White finish includes some requisite scuffing in the pick path, with light marks and small finish chips mostly relegated to the treble side body edge. The neck profile has an exceptionally clean and smooth matching gloss finish. A gigbag is included.
