Up for sale, a 1986 B.C. Rich NJ Series Warlock bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. From the sought after NJ Series (short for Nagoya, Japan), this bolt-on B.C. Rich is crafted with the utmost skill and attention to detail. Flaunting a menacingly contoured bound alder body, maple neck, thick slab rosewood fretboard, and pair of split coil Precision-style pickups, this Warlock can conjure plenty of aggressive punch and heft with a myriad of tone sculpting options.
Controls include a Master Volume, three-way pickup selector, Preamp Volume, Preamp On/Off switch, 6-position Varitone, Phase switch, Dual Sound neck pickup switch, Dual sound bridge pickup switch, and a Master Tone control to round things out. The bass can sound defined and open, or engage the Preamp to push your rig to its limit for mean grind. This B.C. Rich weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with lots of shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 9 1/2“ radius, and the medium jumbo fretwire is nigh flawless, benefitting from a level and crown and only exhibiting a hint of wear on frets 1-3. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 5/8” in width. The four-on-a-side reverse headstock features original B.C. Rich "R" tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The original Patent Pending and serial stickers are still intact on the back of the headstock too.
All of the electronics function as intended, and the original trio of black flat-topped knurled knobs are present. Hardware includes the heavy duty chrome plated bridge. The gloss Snow White finish is framed on top by black binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to some minor chipping at the lower bout body points (a common occurrence on the Warlock body shape), very light buckle wear on the back, and a scant few tiny nicks on the body as a whole. The neck profile has a satin finish, with just a couple shallow marks along the profile length that have no impact on playability.
The original B.C. Rich-branded faux leather gigbag is included.
