Up for sale, a 1985 Ibanez X Series Destroyer model DT380 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, sporting a Rising Sun finish and complete with the original hardshell case. Only produced from 1984-85, this rare Japan-exclusive Ibanez is built to shred with an aggressive Explorer-esque body shape, high output Ibanez V5 blade humbuckers, and Pro Rock’r tremolo system.Tonewoods include a basswood body, one-piece maple neck, and 22-fret slab rosewood fretboard. The V5 blade humbuckers are bold and powerful, designed for high gain crunch with punchy mids, taut low end chunk, and dynamic, singing trebles. These pickups are wax-potted, ensuring optimal feedback rejection in high gain scenarios, metering at a potent 15k+ ohms. This Ibanez weighs 9lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck sports Ibanez’s Destroyer profile, a slender C-shaped carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius, pearloid dot inlay, and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets are in great shape, with plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The Top Lok locking nut holds steady pitch against the deepest of dives via the Pro Rock’r tremolo. The Smooth Tuner II tuning machines, as the name would imply, turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. All of the electronics function as intended, with the V5 pickups governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The pots have been upgraded to modern USA-made CTS 500K replacements. The Pro Rock’r tremolo actuates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch. The original Tek Grip knobs are present, with ridged grips for quick on-the-fly adjustments and swells. The gloss Rising Sun finish has subtle yellowing of the clear coat, and cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor dings on the lower bout on top and on the perimeter, as well as a limited area of buckle rash central to the waist and a handful of faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with some prominent vertical finish checking along the profile length. The original hardshell case with form-fit interior is included.
