Up for sale, a 1985 Gibson Explorer Bass in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This rare, short-lived Gibson could only have come from the ‘80s (produced from 1984-87), featuring a pair of humbuckers, an alder body, maple neck capped with an ebony fretboard, and a Candy Apple Red gloss lacquer finish.
Weighing 10lbs 7oz, this Explorer Bass has plenty of natural sustain and a balanced, clear quality, providing a solid foundation for the humbucker pair. Designed specifically for the Explorer and Q80 bass models, these pickups are thundering and full, with a warm, punchy response that has a great low end rumble. The neck pickup is smoother and rounder, with a complex, layered midrange, and the growling bite at the bridge pickup is accentuated by the glassy cut of the ebony fretboard and fresh roundwound 45-100 strings. This Explorer Bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Medium C shape, generous shoulders, measuring .840” 1st fret, .960” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, pearloid dot inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, good meat, light wear on the crowns of frets 1-8
-Scale Length: 34”
-Nut: 1.650"
-Tuners: Original Gibson-embossed, chrome
-Serialization: Stamped on back of peghead
Body Specs:
-Pickups: Original, Gibson-embossed covers
-Electronics: Volume x2, Master Tone
-Harness: Untouched solder, CTS pots date to 45th week of '85

The gloss Candy Apple Red finish exhibits subtle lacquer checking across the body, and cosmetic wear includes a number of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely concentrated on the back and along the perimeter, with a larger chip at the bass-side lower bout body point. There is faint buckle rash on the back, and three small doweled mounting holes on top from a previously installed thumb rest. The neck profile retains its smooth matching gloss, with palm wear through the gloss behind frets 2-3.
A brand new Epiphone-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
