Up for sale, a 1985 Fender Performer in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case. This rare Fender model was the brainchild of John Page, just prior to him helming the nascent Fender Custom Shop, designed to tap into the flourishing “Superstrat” market with an eye-catching, angular body, a pair of coil-splittable slanted humbuckers, and a Schaller-built FS-1 tremolo. Produced for just one year, the Performers were made in Japan due to the transition in Fender’s ownership (CBS to Fender Musical Instruments Corporation) and switch from Fullerton to Corona factories.
The tonewood complement comprises an alder body, maple neck, and 24-fret slab rosewood fretboard, and this Performer weighs 7lbs 13oz. The slanted humbuckers are sonically unique; these pickups are notably punchy, balancing Fender-style treble sparkle and snap with tight-yet-warm lows. The neck pickup is smooth and clear, and the two-way coil tap mini-toggle enables pure single coil snap. This Performer has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
